Electrical — Davie, Davidson & Forsyth Counties
Breakers Tripping?
Let's Find Out Why.
Licensed residential electrical work across the Triad — panel upgrades, new circuits, lighting, EV chargers, and the kind of troubleshooting that finds the actual fault instead of swapping a breaker and hoping.
Residential Electrical
Done to Code, Permitted, and Explained
Electrical work is the one trade where cutting a corner does not show up as an inconvenience — it shows up years later as a fire or a failed inspection during a home sale. K&W treats it accordingly. Work that needs a permit gets one, work that needs an inspection gets inspected, and you get told what we found in language that actually means something.
A lot of what we see in this area comes down to housing stock. Davie and Davidson counties have plenty of homes wired for a fraction of the load a family puts on a panel today, and the symptoms show up gradually — a breaker that trips when the microwave and the toaster run together, lights that dim when the AC kicks on, extension cords doing work a dedicated circuit should be doing.
We will tell you when something is genuinely urgent and when it can wait until it suits your budget. A warm outlet is not something to schedule for next month. A panel with no open slots usually is.

Stop and call us right away if you notice any of this
A burning or fishy smell near an outlet, switch, or panel. A cover plate or outlet that feels warm. Scorch marks or discoloration. Buzzing or crackling from the panel. Shut off that breaker and call — these are the faults that start house fires, and they do not resolve on their own.
What We Get Called For Most
From a single dead outlet to a full service upgrade — the residential electrical work Triad homeowners need most.
Panel Upgrades & Replacement
Replacing undersized, outdated, or unsafe panels — including fuse boxes and the Federal Pacific and Zinsco panels still found in older Triad homes. Sized for what your house actually draws now, not what it drew in 1978.
Outlets, Switches & Circuits
New outlets and dedicated circuits, GFCI protection in kitchens, baths, garages, and exteriors, USB and smart switches, and replacing the two-prong outlets still wired into a lot of older houses.
Lighting Installation
Recessed cans, fixture replacement, ceiling fan wiring and bracing, dimmers, under-cabinet lighting, and exterior and landscape circuits.
EV Charger Installation
Level 2 charger circuits, with an honest assessment of whether your panel can carry one before the work starts — not after. We would rather tell you up front that a service upgrade is needed than surprise you mid-job.
Generator Wiring
Transfer switches and dedicated circuits for portable and whole-home standby generators, wired so the changeover is safe for you and for the line crews working on the grid.
Troubleshooting & Safety
Breakers that keep tripping, flickering lights, dead outlets, warm cover plates, and burning smells. We trace the fault to its source rather than swapping the breaker and hoping.

Electrical — Common Questions
Is K&W licensed for electrical work in North Carolina?
Yes. K&W Service and Repair holds North Carolina electrical contractor license #29978, separate from the #15782 license covering our HVAC and plumbing work. We carry full liability insurance and pull permits on any job that requires one.
How do I know if my electrical panel needs upgrading?
The usual signs are breakers that trip regularly, a panel with no open slots left, lights that dim when a large appliance starts, or a fuse box rather than breakers. Panels rated at 100 amps were sized for houses with far fewer electrical loads than a modern home carries, and anything from the Federal Pacific or Zinsco era should be evaluated regardless of how it appears to be performing.
Can you install a Level 2 EV charger?
Yes. A Level 2 charger needs a dedicated 240-volt circuit, and whether your existing panel can carry it depends on its capacity and current load. We evaluate the panel first and tell you plainly whether you need a service upgrade before the charger goes in — that is the part most quotes leave out until the work has already started.
What should I do about a burning smell or a hot outlet?
Stop using that circuit and shut the breaker off, then call us right away. A warm outlet or cover plate, a burning or fishy smell near a switch or panel, scorch marks, or buzzing from a panel all point to a connection that is arcing. These are the problems that cause fires, and they do not improve on their own — treat them as urgent rather than waiting for a scheduled appointment.
Why do my lights flicker?
Occasional flicker when a large appliance starts is usually a load issue. Persistent or widespread flickering is different — it often means a loose neutral, a failing connection in the panel, or a problem on the service entrance, any of which is worth looking at promptly rather than living with.
Do you pull permits and handle inspections?
Yes. Panel replacements, service upgrades, new circuits, and most larger electrical work require a permit and an inspection in our counties. We handle that as part of the job. Work done without a permit can surface later during a home sale or an insurance claim, which is why we do not skip it.
